Becoming a Skyline Guide—What it Takes

Topics: ,
We guarantee that your tour will be among the most memorable experiences you have on your Hawaiian vacation. Not only will you be thrilled by ziplining our course, learn more about Hawaiian culture, and enjoy spectacular views - but we’d like to think you will be led by the best of the best! We take pride in our guides.

Training

All Skyline guides complete a minimum of 80 hours of training, including first aid, CPR and AED certification from a Red Cross certified instructor. During this rigorous training, the guides learn all about the company background, equipment used, and the ins and outs of ziplining. Every day they apply this knowledge out on the courses.

Shadowing

After training, guides complete a minimum of four “shadow” days consisting of joining two Senior guides on their tour with actual, paying guests. Each tour the shadowing guide will work and build on specific assigned skillsets. It is fun for them to finally interact with our guests visiting Hawaii from around the world.

Assistant and Senior Guiding

Once completing the shadowing program, guides are allowed to work with a Senior guide – just the two of them. And the guests of course! Each guide is to complete 15 days of assistant guiding before moving to the next level – Senior Guide. Once the guide has reached Senior status they are able to work with any other guide.

Community

Our motto “Do Good. Have Fun.” is so simple but so true. We stand firm in spreading good throughout the Hawaiian islands. One way we encourage our guides to get involved is by providing “paid service days” to them so they can go out into the community and volunteer for a cause that they find meaningful. Our guides also truly love what they do. They are not meant to work the typical 8-5 grind, sitting in a cubicle staring at a computer. Why live in paradise to be inside and miserable all the time? Our office views can’t be beat! They get paid to lead informative and FUN tours for guests from around the world. They take great care of each guest and keep everyone laughing throughout the adventure.

Culture

Spreading the vast knowledge of Hawaiian culture to our guests is a big part of the Skyline experience. A couple years ago we added a Cultural Advisor within our staff who provides valuable knowledge to our guides to spread to our guests. After six months with the company the guides earn a three day, off the grid excursion with our Cultural Advisor. This experience is eye-opening and life changing for most. We hope this powerful connection provides a fully Hawaiian experience for our guests on tour.

Best Places to Work

It is these personalities and talents that led Skyline to being selected as one of the Best Places to Work from 2009 - 2017 by Hawaii Business Magazine. Results from an employer survey, as well as extensive employee surveys are compiled and used to rank companies on their work environment and culture. Skyline owes a big 'Mahalo' to all its staff for making the company such a great place to work and play!
