Saturdays and WednesdaysThis is one of the biggest outdoor markets on the Island. Saturdays and Wednesdays are busy and bustling in downtown Hilo. The market occupies two sides of the street, one side is local produce, honey, cheese and other food vendors. This is where you can find all kinds of Hawaiian and exotic fruits, from strawberry papaya to sweet white pineapples and apple bananas to bright pink dragon fruit. The prices are very reasonable and would make a great stop before cooking a fresh meal at home. The other side of the street is where you will find local handmade jewelry, crafts, shirts, woodwork and other arts and crafts. This is a great place to find a unique gift to bring back home. There is also a small food court with poke, a café, and a tai food truck. Yum!
Uncle Roberts Night Market
WednesdaysThe Big Island’s local secret is the Wednesday night market down at Kalapana. People come from all over the island to experience this unique night market with food vendors, a rocking live band, dancing, unique arts and crafts, and some occasional street entertainment such as fire dancing! A popular spot is the pizza truck which serves made-to-order wood-fired pizza. But you got to get there early because they sell out quick! There is also an outdoor bar with beer and tropically flavored jello shots. Kick back and jam to the live band or get up on the floor and dance the night away!
Waimea Homestead Farmers Market
WednesdaysThis Waimea market has more of a country vibe with its farm fresh eggs, honey and produce. You can smell the freshly baked bread from across the street as some vendors set up their freshly made baked goods. This is also a great market to pick up some beautiful fresh-cut flowers or plants.
Maku’u Farmers Market
SundaysThis is a fun busy Sunday market down toward Pahoa. The Maku’u market is the perfect one-stop shop for great food, music, produce and gifts. There are a variety of food vendors including, Thai food, crepes, Mexican, smoothies, and deep-fried Oreos! Grab some lunch and walk through the vendors. This is where you can find your produce for the week and some unique jewelry and art. There is also a handful of vendors selling a variety of plants such as fruit trees and herbs.
