Zipline to Triple U.S. Manufacturing Facility, Creating More Jobs in AI and Robotics
Expansion is designed to enable Zipline to build up to 15,000 new autonomous aircraft annually as demand for its instant delivery service surges
Bentonville, AR — September 30, 2025 — Zipline, an American robotics company that designs, manufactures, and operates the world’s largest autonomous logistics system, today announced a major U.S. manufacturing expansion. The company will triple its existing South San Francisco, CA facility and add new roles in integration, quality assurance, manufacturing and more.
The expansion is designed to enable Zipline to produce up to 15,000 autonomous aircraft per year, which is needed to meet unprecedented consumer demand for its service.
Zipline is already the world’s largest commercial autonomous logistics system and has safely flown more than 115 million autonomous miles and made more than 1.6 million deliveries. The company already flies four times as much per day in Africa, as the continent’s largest commercial airline, and this expansion will help supercharge the service.
Caitlin Burton, who oversees Zipline’s Africa operations, announced the news today at the UP Summit – an annual gathering of transportation and aviation leaders. “Demand for autonomous logistics is accelerating at an exponential pace,” she said. “Since 2023, we’ve been making a commercial delivery somewhere in the world every 60 seconds. Now we are on track to do more deliveries in the U.S. per day by the end of 2025 than we do in all other countries per day combined.”
Much of Zipline’s growth is due to the roll out of its new home delivery service, which launched in April and is already delivering from 10 Walmart Supercenters, Chipotle and Buffalo Wild Wings, making hundreds of trips per day. In the coming weeks, Zipline will continue to add delivery from many new stores and restaurants in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
Today, customers can order more than 65,000 items via the Zipline app, which is available on the iOS and Google Play stores; the service has an average customer rating of 4.89/5. To date, the company’s fastest U.S. delivery this year was 7 minutes from order to delivery.
